Why Fire Safe Councils?

The twelve Fire Safe Councils of the Napa Communities Firewise foundation span Napa County from Calistoga in the northwest to Gordon Valley in the southeast. Covering non-incorporated areas of the county, our councils help to plan fire mitigation projects and bolster community awareness and organization in areas that do not have the support of city governments. They are true grassroots organizations started by citizens, for citizens.

These Councils cover approximately 3,384 households (with 8,849 people), and they span 140 square miles of our county. Included are the communities of Angwin, Atlas Peak, Berryessa Estates, Berryessa Highlands, Calistoga, Circle Oaks, Deer Park, Diamond Mountain, Gordon Valley, Mount Veeder, the Silverado Resort, and Soda Canyon. Napa County is comprised of many different types of ecosystems and topographies, so each community has its own unique set of challenges in the face of the new modern era of wildfire here in California.

Our Fire Safe Councils depend on the involvement of everyday citizens to further their mission of making our neighborhoods here in Napa County more informed of and resilient against the threat of wildfire.

We all have our part to play, none too big or too small, so please join with us and your local council to get involved!
