SUMMARY:Prescribed herbivory for fuels reduction
DESCRIPTION:Grazing planning and permitting in the State of California \nAs the State of California has ramped up investments to increase fuel treatments to manage high fuel loads and reduce wildfire risk\, the use of livestock to treat fuels has received increased attention. In this workshop\, representatives from CALFIRE (Department of Forestry & Fire Protection)\, CalTrans (Department of Transportation)\, the CDFW (California Department of Fish & Wildlife)\, and CP SLO’s (California Polytechnic State University\, San Luis Obispo) Range Program will discuss the steps involved in the development of grazing agreements (‘licenses’) on State lands and beyond. Topics will include requirements for contracting on State lands\, CalTrans encroachment permits\, CDFW grazing agreements\, CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) processes and requirements\, and general guidelines for developing applications for fuel reduction projects utilizing grazing. \nRegister Today!

SUMMARY:Climate Science Seminar Part 1
DESCRIPTION:The Climate Science Seminar Part 1 is a one-day interactive workshop taught by Professor Andrew Isaacs. This seminar is modeled after his semester-long MBA course “Climate Change and Business Strategy\,” which he teaches at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. \nThis 30-person workshop is intended for individuals with an interest in how climate change is impacting business\, and how business sustainability depends both on mitigating climate impacts and on adaptation to ongoing climate change. All attendees will leave with a better understanding of climate science and the risks and opportunities climate change poses for wine businesses. While the course does not shy away from using scientific terms\, the material is easily accessible\, and no prior familiarity with climate science is assumed. \nLunch will be provided. \nRegistration is available on the Napa Valley Grapegrowers website. To encourage more folks to spend the day learning about climate science\, NVG would like to extend a discount of 35% off general admission. To utilize this discount\, enter NVGPartner at checkout.

SUMMARY:Wildfire Resilience Decision Support Framework
DESCRIPTION:We will be having Molly Oshun from Sonoma Water\, Deanne DiPietro from the Conservation Biology Institute\, and Sashi Sabaratnam from the UCCE on the call to talk about Sonoma County’s Wildfire Resilience Decision Support Framework. It is a set of online tools and resources intended to support the planning and implementation of fuel management projects. \n\n\n\nThe Sonoma County Wildfire Resilience Decision Support Framework provides critical information at multiple scales to support strategic\, ecologically-sensitive fuel management across the region. The Decision Support Framework is part of a county-wide coordinated initiative to prioritize actions and investments by Sonoma Water\, University of California Cooperative Extension\, the Community Wildfire Protection Plan\, and Sonoma County’s Office of Climate Action & Resiliency. \n\n\n\nTwo online decision-support tools make up the Decision Support Framework: \n\n\n\nThe Wildfire Resilience Planner: Strategic Planning at the Landscape Scale \n\n\n\nThe Wildfire Resilience Planner is an online decision support tool that applies a wide range of data from Sonoma County and other sources to help prioritize locations where the reduction of fuels will best protect lives and property\, community infrastructure\, ecosystem services\, and biodiversity. The tool will support collaborative planning of projects on public and private land\, helping to leverage individual efforts for a unified and strategic approach to fuels reduction and vegetation management. This tool is available for testing and will be released in Spring 2023. \n\n\n\nThe Wildfire Fuel Mapper: Property-Specific Information for Fuels Management \n\n\n\nThe University of California Cooperative Extension\, Pepperwood Preserve\, and Tukman Geospatial have developed the Wildfire Fuel Mapper\, a website that provides maps\, information\, and resources for designing and implementing projects to reduce wildland fuels. A detailed report with maps of vegetation\, fuels\, topography\, and other characteristics of the land needed for project planning are available by parcel\, which the user can access by choosing the parcel of interest. The Fuel Mapper also provides information about experts\, specialists\, and funding sources to support project implementation.
