Steele Canyon Roadside

Funded by: County of Napa

Completed: January 2025

Roadside Fuel Treatments Description:

4.55 miles of Steele Canyon roadside was treated to thin hazardous vegetation to ensure ingress and egress for public evacuation and first responder access are supported during a wildfire event.

Within 20-60’ of a road, crews cleaned all brush and dead/dying trees to leave a “park-like” finish that reduces the power of a potential fire. When possible we treated hazardous fuels out to 110’ from center of road by reduction of ladder fuels. Strike hazards to the road within this prescription area were removed at any distance. In total, 33 acres were treated..

This road is surrounded by predominately Valley, Blue, Coast Live Oak, and Foothill Pine. With some areas of Shrubland and Grassland.

The road spans through an area directly affected by the 2020 Hennessey wildfire which now contains dead and fire injured trees, hydrophobic soils, and invasive grasses.

This is a highly trafficked road and used by many people as a recreational route to Lake Berryessa.
