Napa County has entered the heart of wildfire season with more fire safe councils then ever, trying to protect communities ranging from Mount Veeder to Calistoga to Pope Valley to the Berryessa Highlands.
The Pickett Fire’s emergence last week has driven home the point – Napa County is primed to burn. Residents have banded together to keep brush cleared around homes and fuel breaks maintained at strategic locations.
Twenty-two fire safe councils exist, and the Napa Communities Firewise Foundation wants more. It wants 31 councils to cover virtually the entire county, even urban areas such as the cities of Napa and American Canyon.
