As part of a collaborative effort to reduce wildfire risk, targeted grazing is making a big impact across American Canyon. Funded by Napa County and the City of American Canyon, over 400 acres will be grazed by the end of 2025. The American Canyon Fire District, in partnership with Napa Firewise and Napa County, has identified priority areas where grazing can provide critical defensible space for neighborhoods and reduce fuels in hard-to-reach terrain. This work spans key open spaces—including the Newell Open Space Preserve—and continues across multiple zones within the city, as highlighted in the map below.
