In Progress
The Angwin Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Fuel Break project is a joint effort between Napa Firewise and Pacific Union College (PUC), funded by the County of Napa, to enhance wildfire safety in Angwin. Throughout 2025 crews and PUC staff have been working together to clear hazardous vegetation near Howell Mountain Road and the PUC campus.
Treatment methods in this project have included mechanical thinning, mulching, pile burning and chipping. This project will treat 174 acres once complete, lowering wildfire risk, creating a safer zone for firefighters, enhancing defensible space for neighborhoods, and improving overall forest health. Downed and dying trees from the 2023 winter storms are being cleared to reduce hazardous fuels and support the health of mature trees in the project area.
Collaboration:
- PUC staff provide local expertise, equipment, and support for project logistics and operations.
- The partnership ensures safe, efficient work with minimal impact on campus activities.
- PUC’s involvement has also allowed for additional cost-savings, allowing for more treatment and greater impact.
