Napa County, CA – As the much-anticipated harvest season 2024 commences in Napa County, Napa Firewise and Napa Valley Vintners are issuing a critical reminder about the heightened risk of human-caused wildfires. While the region celebrates the bounty of its vineyards, it is crucial to prioritize fire safety to protect our community and natural resources.
While the increased activity during harvest season brings vibrancy to our roadways and vineyards, it’s also a reminder that we all play a role in preventing wildfires. Napa Firewise and Napa Valley Vintners are particularly focused on raising awareness about the risks associated with improperly secured trailer chains with the increased truck traffic throughout harvest season. These chains, if dragging, can create sparks that easily ignite dry vegetation and lead to devastating wildfires. By ensuring trailers are correctly hitched and chains are properly secured, we can all contribute to a safe and successful harvest season.
Red Flag Warning Days: A Time for Extra Vigilance
During Red Flag Warning days, when weather conditions increase the potential for rapid fire spread, we all share the responsibility of protecting our community. We strongly encourage residents and those who work in Napa Valley to exercise extra caution and avoid activities that could spark a fire. This includes:
- No outdoor burning: Debris burning is strictly prohibited.
- No spark producing power tools: Please refrain from using power tools or any equipment that may generate sparks such as grinders, metal weed whackers, chain saws, etc.
- No vehicle idling: Avoid parking or idling vehicles in areas with tall, dry grass.
- No smoking: Smoking outdoors is not permitted during Red Flag Warnings.
Shared Responsibility for a Safe Harvest
Fire safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage everyone to be proactive in preventing wildfires. If you witness any suspicious activity or unsafe behavior, please report it immediately to local authorities. By working together and taking these precautions, we can help prevent wildfires and safeguard the beauty and well-being of Napa Valley.
