Napa Firewise treated 39 acres of roadside hazardous fuels across 3.5 miles on Old Lawley Toll Road in Calistoga. Roadside vegetation fuels projects are designed to reduce hazardous fuels up to 100’ from the edge of the drivable surface where needed and as budget allows. The purpose is to make the road safer for public evacuation and first responder access during a wildfire. This work is done with vetted contractors by using hand and machine thinning and chipping of the material.
Considerable hillside vegetation was thinned along this roadway, in addition to debris in the drainage and strike hazards which support safe travel, in addition to wildfire safety.
