Circle Oaks Perimeter Fuel Break

Funded by: County of Napa

Completed: September 2025

In spring of 2025, with CAL FIRE crews helped prep the Circle Oaks community perimeter by hand thinning and pile burning. Late summer, sheep and goat grazed ground and ladder fuels across approximately 70 acres, turning dense brush into open space with clear sight lines.

Fuel breaks surrounding defined communities like this are designed reduce the hazardous fuels which will moderate wildfire behavior and reduce flying embers threatening structures. It will also give firefighters a safer area to conduct fire suppression operations. Residents can amplify this work by ensuring the defensible space around their home is also kept up and meets defensible space standards.
