After the 2017 Atlas Peak wildfire burned 153 homes throughout the Silverado Community, volunteers established the Silverado Fire Safe Council. Susan Deringer joined the council at its beginning and supported the team through the development of the CWPP and obtaining the initial NFPA Firewise USA recognition in October of 2019.
Susan assisted with maintaining this designation on an annual basis which promotes the projects to enhance the safety of our community and allowing homeowners to receive homeowners’ discounts with some companies such as State Farm, USAA and Mercury. In the Spring of 2020, Susan assumed the leadership role of the council until December 2021.
Under Susan’s leadership, several fire mitigation projects were completed, such as the fuels reduction behind B&C Condos, around Oakcreek, and along Milliken Creek adjacent to Creekside homes. She also hosted several educational events and invited other Napa County Firesafe Councils to attend and benefit.
She has carried the torch of promoting safety in the Silverado community through collaboration with all interested and affected home/landowners to reduce the risk of wildfire damage. Susan has recently stepped down from her role, and the entire community is grateful for her tireless work to help keep everyone safer.
